Garage Sale Fundraiser
Alpha Nu has a biennial garage sale with the money going to support educators through our teacher grant project. Kay Phillips has successfully coordinated the last two sales and Sue Ulbricht graciously donated her home. The 2013 sale netted the chapter $917. |
Holiday Ornament Fundraiser
On Saturday, November 9, 2013 Helen Chandler and Lisa Senter led a group of holiday ornament makers through the steps to create a snowman ornament. Lots of fun was had by all and our treasury is $200 richer. Kudos to the duo for their idea and execution of this FUNdraiser! |
Alpha Nu Partners with Chehalem Elementary School
In October 2013, Alpha Nu members voted to partner with Beaverton’s Chehalem Elementary School for some of our classroom volunteering activities. Shirley Gidley was instrumental in contacting Debbie Nicolai, Chehalem Elementary School principal, and Sue Ulbricht, T.H.A.T. (Teachers Helping Another Teacher) coordinator, joined Shirley in facilitating the project. Chehalem has about 500 students and is Beaverton School Districts only elementary STEM transformation school, focusing on improving the teaching and learning for all students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering Design and Math.
Six Alpha Nu members tutored second and third grade students weekly in math skills beginning in January 2014: Sue Ulbricht, Marsha Stewart, Shirley Gidley, Beth Busch, Barbara Middleton, and Nadine Eaton.
The chapter’s teacher grant money was awarded to Chehalem teachers who applied for funds they needed for projects which enhanced their students’ learning.
