Alpha Nu Chapter’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
Alpha Nu Chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary with a dinner and program at the Rock Creek Country Club on November 16, 2012. Nineteen Washington County teachers founded the chapter in Hillsboro, Oregon on November 16, 1962.
The anniversary program honored its founders and all members past and present. After the social hour and buffet dinner, President Marietta Kuykendall welcomed members and guests. State officer guests were President Alice Hartness-Reichle, Vice President Kathy Martell, and Communications Chair Eloise Gibson. Psi Chapter members present were Roberta Hutton and Psi President Kelly McIntyre.
Beth Busch related some of the highlights of Alpha Nu’s educational and community activities of the past 50 years. Alice Hartness-Reichle shared an inspirational video Heart of a Teacher and then conducted a re-commitment ceremony, which ended with 28 members reciting a re-commitment pledge. Elaine Mattson chronicled Alpha Nu’s story with an entertaining slide show titled, Ties That Bind: Friendship and Fellowship. Elaine Mattson, Lynetta Weswig, Genevieve Smith, Sue Ulbricht and Beth Busch honored Helen Fohl, a 44-year member and long time treasurer, with a tribute. A lap quilt and an appreciation book were presented to her. In closing, Beth thanked her anniversary committee members: Elaine Mattson, Nadine Eaton, Gail Wilhelms, Barbara Middleton, Helen Fohl, Mary Crawford, Betty Peters and Marietta Kuykendall. She also thanked Lynetta Weswig who collected the dinner money and the photographers Grace Pitzer and Jo Rossman.
Alpha Nu’s significant milestone was a well-celebrated event.
